Christmas Concert Afternoon Tea

Today we had friends over for the 2013 Christmas Afternoon Tea Concert.
Lots of fun, plenty of music, food and 14 talented children and their parents.
An afternoon of musical performances and outdoor games.
I made some seed packets for gifts and we shared in some yummy
afternoon tea treats.

Three on the piano and a sax player jamming.
 Merry Musical Christmas!

The Christmas Mouse is Back

Yes Mr .C. Mouse is back.
He found us here in QLD and this time he has his wife and children with him.
We thought they might like some outdoor furniture for their holiday in QLD.
I wonder what they will get up to this time?
This morning we found some tiny paper straws in a mini martini glass,
filled with watermelon seeds!
I hope they like our vegetable garden and our Christmas tree.

Australia Zoo Birthday Visit

A few weekends ago we visited Australia Zoo.
It was a special day at the zoo, kids were free and plenty of extra activities on.
We saw most things and managed to go to the animal hospital as well to see the sick koalas.

We stopped to chat to a wombat...
A mother and baby Rhino...

There are plenty of amazing animals to take photos of.
This zoo is extremely well kept and tidy lush gardens and room for the animals.
Jarrod got a good pic of the kangaroo.

A lovely bird aviary (I want one of these in my garden yes please).

This bird said Hi to the boys right when I pushed the button.
Other activities for kids, included some of the normal fun jumpy thingies
and some clay making, cartoon drawing and chatting with
Paleontologist Dr Hocknull,
who has dug up a few relics in QLD I believe.

We enjoyed the show and the special guests...
Hmmm does this photo look familiar?

A great day out and last day with the Mo!

The Advent Calendar

This year I was determined to use some of the trillions of branches we have lying around here to make some Christmas niceties. I have seen some lovely trees made from timber in the past, so I created our Advent Calendar with things I had in the cupboard and branches connected with string, which is a little messy I must admit, but hopefully it strong enough.
Now we wait until December 1.

Emu Art

When Dad told us he saw some Emus on the side of the road I thought it would be nice to
do some Emu Art with chalk pastels.
I saw this art lesson and loved it and it is quick and lots of fun, even the nanny enjoyed it!

2013 Christmas Puddings

Just a little taste test! I need to check if the new recipe is ok. Yep definitely yummy.

Every year it is extremely humid on the pudding making day and this year was no exception.

Mixing and making breadcrumbs and steaming sounds crazy for this time of the year, however it is definitely worth it.

This year I made the puddings with a good quality Gluten free bread, gluten free flour, organic fruits (including my candied orange peel), organic eggs and butter and replaced the treacle with agave syrup and we think it tastes as good as any previous ones.

Two more to make along with some homemade french style custard, mmmmm.

Have you met Giggles?

This is our friend Giggles who comes down at afternoon tea time to feast on grub gateaux and earthworm sandwiches.
Mustard and Giggles are becoming friends, probable because Mustard is not in the least bit interested in joining Giggles for afternoon tea.
I think we have two Giggles actually!

Entomyzon Cyanotis - The Blue Faced Honeyeater... and why we like them

These two honeyeaters were perched on the tree waiting for the magpie to move away from their food source. The Blue eyed one above is the adult and the green eyed one is the juvenile (about 6 months old we think), getting a lesson in how to take on a James the Magpie.
This bird liked our banana plant when it was fruiting, it is also known as the Banana bird but eats all sorts of insects that would normally feast in our vegetable garden, therefore we really like sharing our home with this bird!

Our New Photographer

This blog pictorial post is brought to you by J (10).

J has discovered he likes taking photos and thanks to a new easy to use camera from Nanny and Poppy he can now be snap happy. 100's of photos later, we have just a small selection here. I think they are pretty good for his first snaps.

And of course the younger brother wants to take photos as well...
